Hi, I'm from Australia. I love hobbies and now my new job is professional drone pilot. I also fly fpv for 10yrs for fun and raced 1/10 onroad Rc cars at national level. I have never had a train set and now is the time. I have been looking to start over the years but old buildings and scenery aren't really my thing. I love Japanese city diorama and want to learn how to make standard buildings into bright city billboards weathered to realism. Looking forward to learning from you guys...👍🏼

Welcome Macdog, glad you found us! Rc stuff sounds fun, do a topic on it in the other hobbies forum, there are a numerous of folks into rc here.

luckily there are lots of buildings available to do a small Japanese cityscape. Many are prebuilt or easy to put together and many are prepainted for assembly. Even the unpainted buildings from Greenmax and Outland are pretty easy to paint and detail up with pin tape, colored cardstocks and printouts signs and advertising. Lots of examples on the forums of how to do roads and such as well. Roads along with road marks, details, etc, are easily done in a simple computer graphics program, printed out and glued down. Japan is great for train scenes as there are trains in just about any scene you can imagine!

Enjoy diving into the model trains and start a topic on your endeavors. Also ask questions, many helpful folks here on the forums.

cheers,

jeff

Hey Macdog,

If you are in Melbourne, come and visit the Australia Japan Model Railway group at the Sandown Model Railway Exhibition coming up soon.  We've got a pretty good Japanese city diorama you might like to see.

Welcome, I’m also in Melbourne and relatively new here.

Do you know what scale you want to model in? 1/150 is probably the most common and you can find lots of suppliers out there but there’s plenty of  1/220, 1/80 ish and 1/45ish centred on trains and other scales doing other things.

@VJMthanks for the heads up, would love to come and meet you guys at Sandown
