Green Max Assembly Tool 8660

It is quiet here - the dog seems to be sleeping in - so prompted by @Ekiben's query, I finally opened the package to see what this assembly tool offers.  I have not figured out how to align the pictures with the text but hopefully this will make sense.  Translations were courtesy of my iPhone but worked to give decent info.

There seems to be four main components.

1 - a rectangular plastic block which can be used to assist in bending wires for handrails and similar tasks;

2 - a L shaped plate that can be used to assist in cutting stickers cleanly with groves in the interior corner to facilitate that.  There are two of these and a diagram showing them stacked which would help position the pieces at a 90 degree angle when gluing a car end to a car side;

3 - a car body holder to assist in holding a car body while painting or adding detail parts.  The two top pieces can be turned to adjust for different car lengths;

and

4 - a pantograph holder which can hold Green Max or Kato pantographs for painting.  (It specifically mentions those two brands but there is no mention of Tomix pantographs.)

Hope this is useful info.  I bought this on a whim - I was filling out my last HobbySearch order with some items from the bargain bin and figured it might be helpful to have.  It ran about 1000 yen (or about US$6) so seemed worth taking a chance on it.

Ciao,

Tony

Interesting set of little tools. For bending wire I usually use a pair of thin slowly tapering needle nose pliers. I just find the place in the jaw that is the width of the U I want and mark it to bend there. A couple of times that I was making a lot the same size I just filed one edge of the jaws parallel to the other at the desired width so I could bend in a larger area and get the same size every time. Not sure a bit of plastic would be so good repeated wire bending as I would expect the edged to eventually round out and not give as clean of bends.

Decal cutter is interesting way to cut. I usually just cut on a blade pad that has a grid and line the decal up on the grid and use clear triangles to do the cutting and just line them up visually with the mat grid. On smaller bits it may be hard to see into the corner well. The cuts in the corner do allow overcutting which is good to do. But the thick nature of the cutting edge (the hs picture showed the two half separated by a gap to make it thicker) I think may make it harder to see your cutting area while cutting. With cutting thin stuff like decals it’s not very crucial you get the blade perfectly perpendicular like it is for thicker materials. Was thinking maybe I could make some notches into one of the small L edges I have here but I fear I would not make a clean cut in the corner as good as would be needed.

Interesting little paint stands.

Very nice of greenmax to develop some modeling tools like this for modelers. At $7 not horrible price. But HS has it listed as terminated.

Ah I looked in the tool section and that’s where I found the old RM version that is terminated. New greenmax one looks identical.
