For those interested, Tomix will be releasing a completely new version of the 0 series shinkansen around october. It's the 0-2000 subseries, using a new motor with flywheels and new couplers etc. They'll also be release a 2-car add on and a 4-car add on.

The 0-2000 is still on active duty as a 6-part consist.

Okay Martijn - you know I'm going to be interested. Are there any photos of the new version of the O series?

Don't think there's pictures of the model yet, but I expect it to look like the other 0 series models, except with updated motor and couplers. (got mine pre-ordered already, base set plus a 2-car add-on ;))

They're also releasing a starter set with the series 0-7000 at around the same time.

Where did you pre-order your set if you don't mind me asking, Hobby Search? (My wife will kill me -- I think she's catching on that I have more than 5 sets.) ::)

(She really is great with my train habit  ;))

pre-ordered it at Japan Model Railways in Germany (www.japanmodelrailways.de). Almost all my stuff is from there, the owner is extremely helpful with things. There hasn't been a single item he hasn't been able to get for me yet =)

No wife or girlfriend for me, so I can buy whatever I want ;)

Guys you really are lucky.

My wife is understanding to a point- though I cant really complain.

Martijn - I tried looking at the store you buy at. The prices are very expensive.

Instead, I am trying to buy directly from Japan when I can. I found a few online stores - try these guys:

I am im the process of buying some parts and trains from the first one and will let you know how I go.

Cheers

Well, obviously it's more expensive than buying directly from Japan, but since I pre-order I get a discount, and as I'm not in a EU country I don't pay the 19% German taxes.

But more importantly, I know he's reliable and very helpful, and has excellent service. Stores in Japan will often only sell what they have on their webpage, asking them about anything is often difficult due to language problems. The store in Germany has managed to get me several items that are generally said to be sold out everywhere, and plenty items he doesn't have on his site. I happily pay a bit extra for all that.

Martijn - you might be forgetting the strength of the Euro but I agree with what you say about service. The situation here is Australia is so dire on that front. The prices are so expensive and the service so poor that I rely 100% on purchasing as reasonably as I can from oversease (which means mainly from Japan) and the internet to get information - especially this forum. I dont know what I do without you guys!

I just had a look, and it's quite a bit of a difference indeed. On the other hand, good service is worth a lot. I quit often have strange requests, and he does his best getting the items for me, without charging anything. He also has an actual physical store which I visited not all that long ago.

You probably already know already, but there is a guy in Australia who's specialized in Japanese trains. I've never bought anything there, but that's mainly his own fault, he was downright rude to me when I kindly reminded him he never replied to an email I send him asking for information. He seemingly didn't get the email and blamed me for that. He's also recommended certain locomotives I could use for certain projects, only to then say they've been sold out for a long time and impossible to get. Place is called Japanese Model Supplies.
