Grant_T
Hi all, I haven't posted for a while (so much work!) but I'm headed back to Japan in a few weeks. I'll be there for five weeks, mostly doing Tohoku and Hokkaido, but I have a pass for the duration, so anything is possible. My wife is not travelling with me this time because we have a wee one (Maltese Shih tzu) to look after at home. I hope to keep you all updated with pics and reports. Grant 7 Link to comment

Tony Galiani
We were up there the same time last year. Great time - albeit cold and possibly snowy - to be there. I keep thinking about a return trip as we did not get to do everything we wanted to while we were there. Cheers, Tony 1 Link to comment

I'm a bit of a sadist though and enjoy the cold. While NZ winters are nothing compared to Northern Japan, I managed to wear a t-shirt, shorts and unfashionable Crocs throughout even the bleakest days of 2024. 🙃 1 Link to comment
cteno4
lol I’m a Birkenstocks and croc wearer year round here in dc, but stick to the crocs in the winter so as not to get the Birkenstock’s leather all messed up with salt. Folks laugh at me but they are pretty insulating and don’t even need socks. Unlike sneakers you can dry them off very quickly if you do step in a puddle of slush. jeff 1 Link to comment
Tony Galiani
Well, I am impressed. Last February, for me it was waterproof boots, wool socks, sock liners and insulated innersoles! And flannel lined pants! Though we did enjoy soft ice cream which seems to be a staple at all the ice festivals and works perfectly in the cold weather. Cheers, Tony 1 Link to comment
