drunken0monkey
This is my take on Shin-Yukari, a very much simplified version of a wonderful plan and layout by Marc (user Madsing on this forum). My goal for this thread is to keep me motivated and share with other enthusiasts. I will try to post as I progress, but work keeps me busier than I'd like these days so visible progress will be slow. Inspiration: a family vacation in Japan combined with a lifelong interest in model trains, electronics, culture, society, history and technology. Why replicate someone's layout: I plagiarize better than I design and the size and theme matched exactly what I had available and wanted respectively. Goals: learn, stay connected to Japanese culture, relax, get frustrated dropping and losing tiny things. Finally got the track (mostly) laid out and layout installed into final location. A few quick pics to start. 9 Link to comment

cteno4
Great start @drunken0monkey! Good amount of track in there but still some good scenery spaces. this is why I like doing Japanese model trains, it bundles a lot of things together into one hobby. It both combines things I really love to do with other things I’m not as good at but working at it always makes me much better. The more parts of the brain a hobby pings the better it is for the brain. keep us posted on the project. cheers, jeff Link to comment
drunken0monkey
A couple of Sankei kits finally arrived, after a lengthy delay due to the Canada Post strike. It's my first time ever doing paper kits (and learning that paper craft is a whole thing onto it's own). Have to say I really like these. The detail is fantastic and they're surprisingly less difficult to put together than I anticipated. Did a fair bit of behind the scenes clean-up work, correcting alignment and finalizing positioning. 6 Link to comment
cteno4
Great! Yes they are fun to do and sort of zen line to do. Takes a little practice to get easy at it. cheers jeff Link to comment
Pashina12
I've been working on the Sankei small shrine kit lately, and it is fun to build - though I find I need to be in the right mood for it. I have one other Sankei kit in the stash, and then an Iori Koubou kit... which I feel like will be a different challenge to the Sankei. Your station area is looking really good. Link to comment
