Japanese HO Locomotives DCC Ready

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a list of Japanese HO locomotives that come DCC Ready, meaning they have a plug that a decoder can be plugged into. No wiring. Thanks

None that I know of.  Mine are Kato Kobo upgrades, so paid extra for them to have DCC (and sound) done.

Some of the Tomix ELs aren't too difficult to DCC with pretty much a straight board swap, and the wiring isn't very complex.  You might look at some of the decoders from NGDCC that are targetted towards specific models.

A number of the staple range of Kato locos came with 8 pin DCC decoder sockets.

EF58

EF65-500

EF65-1000

DD51 -Only space in cab so wiring and decoder on show behind cab glazing.

Much earlier runs may not have DCC sockets. This is certainly the case with an older DD51 I have.

Others with 8 pin sockets

Kiha 80 motor units (not cab cars)

Kiha 58 (M) (head/tail lights look to be a separate circuit board)

Newer Kato releases use n scale size motors in the bogies so have twin motors and would need hard wiring.

E5 shinkansen motor unit

EF510

EF81

newest 165 series

Tenshodo SLs may have sockets in tender. 9600 certainly has an 8 pin socket. Not sure about Quantum equipped options.

Zoukei Mura DD54 and EF13 have 21 pin sockets.

Tomix- All need hard wiring as none have sockets or board swaps as suggested by @VJM

Tramway - Don’t have any locos so others may be able to share DCC compatibility

The Zoukei Mura Shinkansen has 21 pin socket in each motor car and electric couplers to pilot the front / rear lights.

Kato’s original release of their 1/80 scale D51 steam locos have an 8 pin receptacle in the tender.

Kato’s DE10 diesels also have a an 8 pin receptacle under the long hood.

I have other Kato models that I’d have to check for DCC compatibility.

Tramway’s 8620, C12 and C59s have 8 pin receptacles. I’ve also got a number of their electric locos, diesel cars and EMUs that I’d need to check.

Cheers,

Mark.
