Upcoming forum and server software maintenance

Hey all!

 

Some of you will no doubt have noticed that the forum lately can be a bit sluggish, and sometimes not be available at all. I haven't really been able to look into fixing that, so for now I've just been restarting the server whenever I notice it's not responsive.

 

There is a fairly major update to do on the server instance we're running. Or more like creating a whole new instance. After that the database server also needs to be updated, and then the forum software itself.

 

I'm not sure when I'll have the time to look into all of it. I'll try to get some smaller maintenance tasks done the coming weeks, but the major updates will likely only be around the end of the year.

 

Around that time we may also do another round of donations. While we do still have a buffer left for the forum software license, I've been paying for the web and database server myself for a while now 🙂
