bill937ca
Never heard of this little railway before today. It was shut down due to the risk of heat stroke. It is described by tourism officials as: The train runs from the west exit, about 300m from Abukuma Express's Yanagawa Kibo no Mori Koenmae Station, to the east exit, where the entrance to the park is located, a distance of 800m at a speed of 5km/h. This steam locomotive opened in April 1987 as the symbol of the park. It is, of course, coal-fired. The service only operates on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and event periods from April to mid-November. https://www.sendaimiyagicp.jp/spot/k-0257/ Edited September 3 by bill937ca 3 Link to comment
MeTheSwede
That's a very cute train. Looks like something the next Kato Pocket Line release should be based on. Those 5km/h looks very fast to me. Link to comment
marknewton
Thanks Bill, that’s a sweet little engine. Built by Kyosan Kogyo in 1987, BN 6098. It’s a modern version of the Toyo Kasei Hakudo/Oriental White Clay loco that featured in Charles Small’s marvellous book “Rails To The Rising Sun”. Cheers, Mark. 1 Link to comment
