Hakubi Line
In 1994 and 1997 the 381 Series in Yakumo Service began to receive the new "Super Yakumo" and "Green Belt" paint schemes to replace the original JNR scheme, but I've found a photo showing a JNR painted 381 in service in 2010. Would anyone know how long JNR painted 381's actually lasted before being completely phased out of Yakumo Service? The recent JNR Revival set doesn't count! https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:JRW_EC_381_series_JNR_color_hiroishi_-_ikura.jpg Link to comment
miyakoji
The description in Japanese says the front 3 cars in that formation were from Hineno Depot. According to Wikipedia, 381s were used on a number of services in Kansai. I remember them on Kuroshio service, most of which had a teal/blue/white livery when I was there, but the article also mentions the Kounotori, Hanwa Liner, Yamatoji Liner, and Mahoroba services. Those were all southern/eastern Osaka-fu, and the pictures I'm seeing are in JNR livery, so the 3 in the lead in this picture may have been from that group. The Kinosaki and Hashidate services are also mentioned, which link Kyoto and points northwest via the San'in Line. Some 381s were assigned to Fukuchiyama Depot, and the tilting system was disabled. The article says passengers complained about the ride quality after the 287 series was introduced, which is a much new train. They reenabled the tilting mechanism limited to 3 degrees, if I understand it correctly. Tony Galiani
Nimo5 did quite a few videos on the 381 Series as they got close to retirement. Here is one but there are videos showing all the different liveries. Tony 2 Link to comment
