chrisdavis103
I got my EF64 and EF66 updated with the DRMC decoders. There were some little glitches with the install but with help from their support, I got it all figured out. 1) the installation images are not totally clear as to what needs to be insulated with the EF install - you need to ensure that there is kapton tape between the copper strips that pull power from the track and the motor contacts. Although that is a pretty common installation issue overall, it took some discussion to decipher the images online. You actually have to wrap the copper power strips with kapton tape in the area where the motor contacts rider over the top. 2) the decoder has pickups on the bottom side that contact the motor contacts, but I guess because of some of the interferences, you need to ensure you slightly bend the motor contacts on the loco so that they are angled upward a bit. That ensure that they will touch the decoder pads on the underside well. If you don't do this the motor will not start, but you still get lights working, etc... The low speed performance is very good for these devices. I love the realism for the factory settings. Still a fan! 2 Link to comment
