ao924
Today I received my first set of tracks and was quick to set everything up but I have a question. Is it possible to use these older style packs and wires brown turnouts with those newer types of power pack? Wiring the turnout to the throw switch makes sense but I'm wondering how I can get power from the power pack to the turn out switch? Along the same lines, I have the dc feeder running from the power pack to the track and it will move perfectly in an oval but if I manually hit the turnout switch the train will lose power the moment it begins to turn. The turnout set came with it's own brown dc feeder and wire, should that be going to the power pack as well? Apologies for sounding daft, the older box did not come with any kind of paperwork so I'm a bit confused. Link to comment
brill27mcb
There is a basic incompatibility here. The Rail Set C contains the original Tomix brown-roadbed track and green turnout control switches that go with the brown-roadbed turnouts. These use a 17 volt AC power input to the turnout control switches, which the original power units provided (identified by a pair of green wires and green press-release terminals). The newer NECST and Neo Tomix control systems supply and use 12 V DC power to the turnout control switches. So, you can use the brown-roadbed turnouts with your green control boxes, but you will need to power the green control boxes with AC accessory power, like from a U.S. (or similar) model railroad power pack, instead of from your newer Neo power unit. The track feeders all basically do the same thing, so that doesn't matter. I don't know why your train goes dead, unless you have the feeder on one of the two passing sidings instead of on the single main line loop somewhere. You will need to provide more information. In the future, it would be best to stick with all Neo. Rich K. 1 Link to comment
ao924
Thanks for the reply, sorry it took so long to get back to you. Your ac/dc explanation made complete sense, I will certainly stick to neo going forward! Link to comment
