Crazy Spiral layout.. (as yet un-named)

Started on a new compact layout with a footprint of 2.1m x 0.5m.

 

It will have multiple spirals at one end, linking 6 different levels.

 

Not sure what each level will be yet.. time will tell... 😉

 

Here are pics of the first 2 layers of the spiral section.

I have, however been toying with an idea for the bottom section,..

 

The back part will be behind scenery, and contain some set-up tracks.

 

The following images may give you an idea what I might do with this section.

Here is a rough idea of what might happen.... it is an "as I go" project, so who knows what might happen at each layer or what sort of "city" might get built.

 

I do have that spiral building from the Mt FooGee layout I could build and have it go up into the next level...

 

Might have an "all floors" elevator,  maybe a cable car or ski-lift as well.. lots of random ideas.. 🙂

 

Any kooky or strange suggestions duly considered.  🙂

Rainy day, so I set to work on the subway station

 

90mm high with track either side of central platform with post supports for roof. Each section 200mm long

 

Escalator entrance and exit at either end.

 

Front arches for viewing, back wall has flat area for billboard signs etc.

 

The holes at the end are designed for a feed through LED rope light, Ceiling is arched and there are 4 rows of 3mm diameter holes in the ceiling.

ps.. Waiting for a bulk buy of track to arrive, then I can start looking at Level 2, which I haven't had an epiphany about yet, and the station on Level 3b, above the Underground station.

 

If you can follow the schematic above, the tracks from the Underground station loop around climb a bit and become the Overground tracks.

 

Actually.. just had a thought for Level 2...  I have a lot of "olde west" 3D models I could use.... hmmm... possibilities.  😉

Working on 3D print of top loop... This is a 110mm tall viaduct for 216 radius Kato Unitrack

 

Up track in on right outside.. down track out on right inside, so no point used, no reversing wiring required.

Top Level [5] design with grey being Kato track and pink being the elevated viaduct.

 

Grey comes in from a spiral from Level4 [city] in the spiral chamber, and climbs enough to cross over itself on the way up through a simple loop in the spiral chamber, to the viaduct section which loops around then heads back down.

 

I think I'll hunt for interesting graffiti I can print and put on the outside of the viaduct walls.

 

Always looking for other wacky ideas if people have any.... or any long narrow graffiti pics that I might be able to use (preferably not names).

 

Also attached one example I will almost certainly use.  😉

Another wet day, so I started designing 3D print for the Level 4 station, which sits directly above the subway station posted elsewhere.

 

Not finalised yet.. Think I might double the length of the building.

Built the Level 6 viaduct to see if it will work.

 

Positioned it approximately where it will go.. Very happy with outcome 🙂

 

First pic is an overall pic.. rest are section pics...  probably need better lighting, but that will happen eventually 🙂

 

 

 

 

 

 

NOTE. decided viaduct is too tall.. lowering it by 2cm.. because I can. 🙂

Decided that I didn't like the station building in the model a couple of posts up, so I'm repurposing the one I used on another layout.

 

Still need to do the upper floor window design.

More progress... all levels sorted track-wise.

Some isolation joiners and power-to-track wires done.

 Awaiting more track to complete the final spiral.

 

Level 1.. still have to do the set-up tracks at the back , but it is Peco, and I have plenty of that available

 

Level 2.  Probably farmland scenery

 

Level 3 and 4.. The Underground and Overground stations taking shape

 

Another view of Level 4 station... platform roof not glued on yet, and some platform detail to add.

 

Level 5, 6... views from either end.  

 

 

Awaiting more track so I can finish the top spiral. 🙂

Front on view of the progress. Couple more bits of track ordered to finish off the top spiral.

 

Have started on the isolation joints and track inputs, Finish them, then onto set-up tracks... then start on the scenery.

Re-did the front of the spiral chamber. so each section of spiral has its own window..... much better...

 

 Hard to get far enough away to get a flat view, so top spiral looks a bit odd.. especially as it is incomplete. !.

I like the idea..... 🙂  Certainly is the aim of the layout.

One of the things you can do with a multi-level .. a tall building joining levels...

 

... in this case a thin version of the twisted tower, with its own upper level entrance.  🙂

 

 

 

Thinking maybe a cable car from the city up to level 5..  😉

And what do you do if you miss the train to get to a different level..

 

.. you use the stairs, of course  🙂 

 

(or maybe a lift, when one gets built)

 

I intentionally left a hole in each level at the right hand end, just for this purpose. 🙂
