E231-500
Our first brand new 6 car EMU has just entered official public service for Transperth The C series trains are the first to be locally built since the closure of the Midland Railway Workshops The Previous A and B Series trains were built in Queensland, and then railed across Australia on transfer bogies. They will slowly replace the ageing A series EMU's which are at their end-of-life. They will also provide extra capacity for other Metronet rail projects underway such as the Morley - Ellenbrook Line, The Thornlie - Cockburn link, as well as the extensions of both the Armadale line to Byford and the Joondalup line to Yanchep. https://www.railwaypro.com/wp/first-new-metronet-train-enters-operation/ 3 Link to comment
Takahama Trainwatcher
Nice. I wonder how they did it, as it's a good change from: On Wednesday, August 26, Berejiklian said at a media conference, “Australia and New South Wales are not good at building trains, that’s why we have to purchase them.” https://www.railexpress.com.au/berejiklian-criticised-for-nsw-train-manufacturing-comments/ Link to comment
N-Osoi
Technically these are not really 'built' in Western Australia... they are assembled here with some components manufactured locally. I might be lucky enough to ride one this week. One detail that catches my eye is that these will have hard floors rather than carpeting on the existing trains... must be a pain to clean and maintain the carpets. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-07/metronet-train-manufacturing-claims-tested-amid-cost-blowout/103665584 personally I'm happy that a lot of work is being done locally. 1 Link to comment
