It's great to see Goji win an Oscar! It's a cool reminder that you don't need a big budget or a superhero plot to make a splash.

For the 70th anniversary of Godizlla, Godzilla Minus One is coming back to theaters for a short run.  Both our local big chain theaters have advertised it on social media.  So you can go get an other fix.

Ooh, was just checking showtimes and it's G-1-C that they're showing this week!

Definitely getting out to see that, missed it when they only showed it for one week before.

Unfortunately mostly evening shows here, no discount matinees, bummer!

Don't know which one I am watching but currently sitting in a hotel room in Tokyo watching a black and white Godzilla film.  Despite being black and white the effects and videography seem sort of modern.  Anyway, looks like the pilot has just killed Godzilla and, miraculously,  somehow survived.

Uh-oh - spoiler alert.  It was Godzilla Minus One.  Hope I did not give anything away and .....

additional spoiler alert .....

I am not sure Godzilla is quite dead at the ending.

Sort of neat seeing it in Tokyo!  And while I have only two or three words of Japanese, the film works without understanding what is being said.

i came in for a lot of leaf blowing as it got dark early with the time change to find burr godzilla on comet tv (I assume for Godzilla day) as I sat down with a cup of tea in my godzilla great wave cup. So I’ve been watching. Train wreck and munching scene just happened. So very fitting, thanks TOC!

It’s also world jellyfish day, how coincidental two of my favorite creatures!

Most of us saw it when it played the first time around last winter so no worries, nothing given away!

If you can read, or just have a good guess at, German — there was a visible label in the very first view of the cockpit.

Do you have an image of this?  My memory is not that great

Wasn’t it suppota and one of the shared super plane technologies between Japan and Germany?

Just saw it twice!  Last night with my wife (Tuesday matinee prices), and again this afternoon with my Goji movie watching friend Melinda who couldn't join us on Tuesday.

One bit I was looking for today was that it squeeked by passing the Bechdel Test by one word!  Norico says "Sumimasen." to Norico when she hands over the white rice.

Spotted this on my first viewing, based on prior dialogue, guessed it's meaning.  Double checked when I got home.

I have a limited knowledge of German, and half of that comes from listening to Dschinghis Khan songs.

Indeed it is there.  Not sure why the large "Bestätigung" which means "Confirmation" is listed on the seat.  Maybe a tech is supposed to note when it was last tested or something?

Yes, curious.   Druckluft-Schleudersitz is in smaller lettering above the more prominent Bestätigung.  I haven't been able to ferret out if that was an historical style label or one just fabricated by the props department

(Aircraft nerd hat on!) It’s a prop department label. The movie ejection seat is based on the type used by the Heinkel 219 night fighter. Those seats carried a small silver-coloured plate with black lettering to indicate they were fired by compressed air. That was to distinguish them from the seats used in the Heinkel 162 interceptor, which were fired by an explosive cartridge. The beautifully restored He 219 belonging to the NASM of the Smithsonian has both ejection seats fitted, which is where I saw them. Likewise the He 162 in the Deutsches Museum has a complete ejection seat fitted, as well as another seat displayed separately.

I’m not much of a movie fan, but I saw G-1 with my son and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. We even got a bit weepy when Shikishima was reunited with Noriko in the hospital.

All the best,

Mark.

Jeff, back when I was an active aircraft modeller I’d have specific themes or topics I’d explore by modelling representative models. One of the major themes that I was fascinated by was night fighters, hence my interest in the He219. Fair to say it the models I built for that theme were my favourites - lots of detailing, modifications and some serious kitbashing or scratch building. Nerds R Us! 😉

Cheers,

Mark.

Mark,

As a kid I was big into wwII aircraft and one of my favorites was a 1/32 Dornier Do 335, that I tricked out the best I could, I think it was the model I ever spent the most time on researching and detailing (back in the days of precomputer where it was going to the library!). But most of mine was 1/72 as best bang for a buck as a kid and I could have way more models. Nerds rule!

cheers,

jeff
