Ekiben
Hi folks, I'll be staying near Ueno Station on an upcoming trip to Japan. Does anyone have any suggestions for good vantage points to watch and photograph JR trains near the station? I'll just be passing through Tokyo on my way to visit family but hope to make the best of my 24 hours in the city. Thanks! Link to comment
railsquid
There's an overbridge just to the north of the station: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pYnpAyFsBmj9MFbD8 If you can head 2 stations north to Nippori you'll get Shinkansens and Keisei as well: https://maps.app.goo.gl/4hhZxYuhzshFggJR6 Edited February 21 by railsquid 3 Link to comment
Tony Galiani
I second @railsquid's suggestion - the bridge at Nippori is an amazing place for train watching and it is easy to get to from Ueno (and you could even walk there if that is you thing). I think there is something like 14 tracks at that location and, when I visited - while my wife was shopping in Nippori Fabric Town, I cannot recall a moment when there was not some train in view. Cheers, Tony 2 Link to comment
Ekiben
Looks like the Shimogoinden Bridge at Nippori Station will be worth a visit. Not far from my hotel so I can likely sneak out once my two-year-old is asleep with mom at nap time or later in the evening. It's listed as #5 on this list of Tokyo train watching spots. https://tokyocheapo.com/entertainment/sightseeing/tokyo-trainspotting/ 1 Link to comment
