bc6
Im looking to paint some items in MOW Safety yellow and for the life of me cant find any online. I have some yellow Vallejo 70.948 which is too bright and Im thinking of buying some Red and Black Vallejo paint to darken my 70.948 to something like a MOW yellow. Are there any premade MOW yellow paint that someone can suggest so I dont have to mix up my own batch. Ive attached a pic of the yellow Im looking for. Edited November 19, 2023 by bc6 Link to comment
valkyriepm
Remember that is very important the primer or base colour you apply to the model, specially with yellow/red/orange, etc. A gray primer and a few light coats of the yellow will make it more obscure than with a white base. Same if you apply a brown or rust base and the yellow on top. I would make some trials with different bases prior to finally aplly it to the model. Hope it helps. Martin 5 Link to comment
Rod.H
Have you looked at the Mr Color range, for their Fluoro Yellow might be closehttps://www.mr-hobby.com/en/common/header-utility-link/main/00/teaserItems1/0/linkList/00/link/Mr.pdf Link to comment
Kamome
I agree with @valkyriepmYellow can be a difficult colour to scale. It's very common for people to use a white base and then paint a bright yellow over the top which is way too vibrant to replicate what you would see in the real world at this scale distance. Yellow paints are all usually pretty translucent too which doesn't always help give you the colour you're looking for. I've seen some great miniature modelling whereby the model is primed in black, dry brushed with a lighter tone to highlight the details and then thin colour washes to build up the vibrancy of colour. For yellow colours, I've also seen some techniques using a pink/purple base, light grey or white highlighting and yellow over the top. Vallejo Game Colour Golden Yellow may be similar base to you image with a lighter colour for the highlights. And don't forget a brown grime wash to tone it all down. 2 Link to comment
Rod.H
I'd a thought, would any of these help?https://www.scalemodeller.com.au/products/premium-an-yellow-30mlhttps://www.scalemodeller.com.au/products/premium-vr-yellow-australian-rail-30ml https://www.scalemodeller.com.au/products/premium-pn-yellow-australian-rail-30ml They might be difficult to get as they're an Australian brand. Another thought is what colour is the typical primer used on Japanese equipment, would a layer of that before applying yellow get the desired result? Link to comment
