maihama eki
That is a shame. I wonder if they will replace it with more vending machines on the trains. Link to comment
kuro68000
It was very handy when you are sat in a window seat and didn't have time (or forgot) to grab ekiben before hand. 1 Link to comment
Guest
Another article states… ”Food and beverage sales won’t completely disappear from the Tokaido Shinkansen, however. On the day after food cart sales end, JR Tokai will be introducing a new “Mobile Order Service.” Passengers will be able to use their smartphone to scan a QR code at their seat which will take them to an order page, and the items they select to purchase will then be delivered to their seat by a member of the train staff. However, Mobile Order Service will only be available to passengers in Green Cars, the Shinkansen’s first-class section.” Which is hopefully true, as I’m heading to Hakata today on the Nozomi (green car). Guest
Contrary to the death of the snack cart news, they did bring the cart out after leaving Kobe. Maybe the ordering system was down, or perhaps because it’s the Sanyo Shinkansen line after Osaka. The end of the cart service did specifically say “Tokaido Shinkansen”. bikkuri bahn
Yes, JR Tokai ended the service, JR West, responsible for the Sanyo Shinkansen, is unaffected. I think there will be more vending machines at key stations, but I would rather they set up snack vending machines/self-serve grind-to-order coffee makers on the trains, like the Hinotori service on Kintetsu (excellent train BTW). Perhaps the space formerly used for smoking rooms could be used. Link to comment
