Another glance at the decaying, decrepit, disorganized state of America's once-proud and second-to-none railway system. How the mighty have fallen.

Many parts are in excellent shape and modernized to do massive hauling, but unfortunately there are still bad spots and equipment. Many of the issue surround staffing and chatting hours and number of eyeballs on safety and faults in the system to maximize profits. Some also are very aging infrastructure that needs updating, but at massive costs.

A short drive south of where I live and of course a major news story here.

They now think that a broken rail caused the train to derail and subsequently take out the bridge.

Trains like this haul coal from Wyoming open pit coal mines to Texas for coal fired power plants. Long trains - usually more than 100 cars in length. When we see them, we sort of joke "more of Wyoming being shipped to Texas". This is a high traffic freight train route with many trains passing daily - full ones headed south and empty ones headed back north.

Condolences to the truck driver's family and friends.
