Has anyone done a Kato RDC Decoder Install?

I have a old school Kato RDC that has a Digitrax DN143K2 decoder which seems to work but it doesn't. The middle led board does light up so I assume that I haven't damaged the decoder. My question is has anyone tried to install a different decoder other than the DN143K2 or had an issue with the DN143K2 and got it to work properly. Thanks for your attention to this matter.
