Outland Buildings

Well it looks like some new buildings on ebay from china. Some are extensions of the CNC cut Outland buildings and some now look to have window inserts and nicer details, surface texture and coloring. Just ordered a few to check them out. but some interesting new buildings that have a new look! not sure if these are cnc or moulded walls but the window inserts look like they have square corners. they come with walls pre painted and assembled with window and door inserts and colored rather like a tomytec structure. The outland models did not have any window inserts and only the front face of the styrene is painted so cut edges are just bare gray or white styrene. 

 

Nice to have new additions to modern larger buildings! they also look like they could be kitbashed taller if wanted. Floors need to be added if you want any interior detailing or different floor lighting.

 

hard to tell if the same folks as the outland models as ive found many similar sellers from china on ebay are actually the same company.

 

at $15-20 shipped they are not bad at all. some are pretty wild!

These do look as though they could be inserted into a Japanese layout with a bit of modification.

Good find cteno, I ordered a few as well, you can't go wrong at that price. They will fit nicely in my planned modern layout. Good thing I saved all my extra stickers from my Tomix and Kato buildings. ;)

So I got the three buildings from happysunamy on ebay and they are quite nice! They are well painted with edges and tabs the proper color to work when assembled. The little square pins into the round holes in sides works, but takes a little careful pressure to assemble. Actually hitting the square peg edges with a fine file helps a bit but does decrease the hold a tiny bit. They hold decently, but if you plan to light them you will need to think about gluing them. Nice thing is you can easily disassemble them if you want to light or modify.

 

It's only a few bucks more to get the painted ones from the raw Outland models and well worth it as they have painted around the window frames very vell and these can be very tedious and time consuming to paint!

 

They can use a bit more detailing and have no sinage.

 

Nice addition to the usual suspects! Nice heights of 5-7 stories as well. Will probably grab a few more.

Mine also arrived today....err yesterday now. I agree with everything cteno said, they are very nice for the price, I also ordered mine from happysunamy.  Mind you they sent the shipping email a month after I ordered the buildings so I really wasn't expecting these to arrive. I misplaced my file so I scraped the paint off the pins with my trusty Olfa to make them fit better. One of my 6 buildings was sent in the wrong colour but it happened to be the building I am using for a kit bash to make another Akihabara otaku type building so I am not too concerned.

 

They are now offering billboard signs on one of their structures

Yeah I saw that one and it was the one that I was thinking of getting.

 

One other thing I just noticed was that on these fully painted ones they had gone in and squared up all the window mullion corners! The 1mm radius bit they used for the CNC cuts left small rounded corners in the Outland blank models. Nice!

The Outland 3 story structures are very expensive at about $9 each versus what Greenmax offered. With Greenmax it was 4 3 story buildings for $17.66 with lots of details like stickers and different fronts for each building.  I crossed Outland off my list.

Yeah it's the larger and preprinted buildings that are a better value and more interesting.

So, I'm liking these that are painted nicely. They must have a mask cut to easily spray the window mullions and inner frame so well. Little tab hole don't look bad almost look like some odd detail on the balding. Nice look to them. Going to get a few more.

 

They are fun to pop together. Btw they don't come with instructions, but just takes a minute to layout the pieces and figure out how it pops together.

I believe that, Squid!  I've been [very happily] amazed at how good a job Tomytec and others have done at capturing vernacular Japanese architecture.

It's much easier capturing the architectural flavour of Ibaraki than it ever would be to try to do urban modelling of Boston and New England with the bulk of what US manufacturers turn out.

hmmm maybe we need to get ngineer to make a little squid we can put on our Japanese layout and it will trap squid into a bizarre twilight zone episode loop!

 

i am amazed every little streetview walk I do in japan I see a few models!

Spotted a couple of new offerings from Outland that may be of interest to others. They've put out a couple of taller 30 cm tall buildings:

• Outland-Models-Railroad-Scenery-Skyscraper-Building-Triangle-Top-N-Scale
• Outland-Models-Railroad-Scenery-Skyscraper-Building-Curve-Top-N-Scale

Can't beat the price. I just ordered the curve top one. (Not really keen on the smaller windows on the triangle top version, personally) It's sure nice to be able to get some taller buildings for cheap! And you could buy a few and combine them to increase the footprint or go taller.

 

I own a few other Outland buildings, and I'm pretty happy with them. Cheap kits, easy to assemble, and ripe for kitbashing/customization. Still need to actually paint and detail them... I've got a lot of bare looking buildings on my layout, and now I guess I'll have some more!

Those were out a while ago and then a bunch of Outland disappeared for a while. I was eyeing the round top one to double up back to back, guess I should now!

 

im with cat shipping out some of the window mullions to simplify the windows. They are a good starting point to improve on either kitbashing or just painting and detailing. Also just more variety. The pre colored ones are nice but they can be odd on the ones that use the white stryene with just a coat of paint as you have white edged and pin ends to deal with.
