The underground platforms at Osaka Station will open next month, March 18. View from the front of ltd. express Kuroshio, section recorded Shin-Osaka to just past Tennoji. 3 Link to comment

Video by ayokoi, same route that Bikkuri included in his post, but with grades shown in permil. Track diverges from old alignment around 3:10. Nice vid - gives a great overview of the new station and extended platforms in the main station area. Lovely bit of new infrastructure for Osaka. I presume all platforms in the underground section will eventually receive barriers, although the commuter platforms won't get those very fancy sliding doors, right? 1 Link to comment

While reading about this, I came across information about the Naniwasuji Line, meant to be completed by 2031. It'll diverge from this track underground and run south to JR Namba. Right now that's the physical end of the Yamatoji Line (buffers, that is). News to me. Big piece of infrastructure - interesting that Hankyu may also be involved at some point. Sacto1985 Posted March 19, 2023 Share Posted March 19, 2023 YouTube member tetsudoudaisukiman just posted a video of a freight train carrying Fukuyama Tranport containers through the new station: Note the additional EF210 locomotive in the back. This is because the gradient in and out of the underground platforms are quite steep and freight trains need a banking (or as they're known as helper in the USA) locomotive to go through the station. 2 Link to comment
