inobu
So, I guess its a good thing these project builds on themselves. The tram yard I had to put off ended up helping my on this project. I needed to build a concrete yard. There were a few issues but a few adjustments fix them. I can use this understanding to add concrete on the tram yard. 5 Link to comment
cteno4
Inobu, what did you make the yard concrete from? Did you lasercut it? jeff Link to comment
inobu
Yes, I did and used heavy cards stock with the channeling of the foam. I had problems with the contour rising above the rails. This would lift all four wheels off the rails. Not much leeway in N Scale. The solution was to let the rail ride a half a mm above the card stock. The eye does not pick it up. That's how Unitram does it. Inobu 1 Link to comment
cteno4
How did you cut your cardstock to get nice lines? Always a challenge as any little wavers show up so easily. did you do any support chipboard under the card stock to prevent warping or sagging? Any paint on it yet? cheers jeff Link to comment
inobu
The lines are laser cut and the its high grade card stock it wont sag. I put light misting coats of acrylic paint on it. The card stock was pure white. Inobu Link to comment
Giugiaro
Laser cutting is such an admirable technology. Link to comment
cteno4
Inobu, cool another reason for a lasercutter! any cardstock will sag with time unless we’ll supported. Had this happen with small cardstock building roofs. Fine for a bit, but with time things do sag. Learned to strap with wood or styrene strips. is the cardstock between different tracks resting and glued on the foamcore? If so then no issue. you don’t have bad humidity swings so warping won’t be a big issue, especially if it all attached to that foamcore base directly. if I paint cardstock I first give it a light coat of clear laquer spray. Seals things up well with little risk of warping and then good base for acrylics. sorry lifetime of doing cardstock stuff and having issues with time when not well supported and sealed. cheers jeff Link to comment
inobu
You have to get the good stuff. It's 14 ply and coated. This resistor dial was made with the same card stock it in 2016. No warping or anything. 1 Link to comment
cteno4
Ahh not what I would call card stock! That’s a high quality stiff art board. I thought you meant like usual 80-150lb cardstock. jeff Link to comment
inobu
That's the same stuff in the yard only that the yard is painted........... Inobu Link to comment
