A large hole was found Monday under the sleepers of the Tokyu Toyoko Line near Hiyoshi Station in Kohoku Ward, Yokohama. Train operations were suspended for about three hours between Musashi-Kosugi and Kikuna stations on the Toyoko Line and between Musashi-Kosugi and Hiyoshi stations on the Meguro Line, affecting about 63,700 passengers.

This is not on a cement viaduct, so I guess there's just earth below the ballast.  Just a regular old sinkhole due some kind of drainage oddity?  Hmm.

Yeah, that's a nice condo.  Most of the Lions Mansions here in Sapporo are the old ones built during the bubble era- you know, the ones with the orange tiling and gothic font on their signage.

 

*to add, Kohoku Ward where Hiyoshi is located has a pretty high avg. household income, it's 7th in Kanagawa Prefecture, just behind the seaside towns like Kamakura or Zushi and swank Aoba Ward in Yokohama. It's got good transport connections, Keio Univ's Hiyoshi Campus, and a nice leafy suburb "butnottoofartoTokyo" vibe. High property taxes though, being Yokohama.
