JR East
HI Pixie1 As you're a new member, I recommend you to go to the Welcome section as it's always pleasant to let our newcommers introduce themself. https://jnsforum.com/community/forum/14-welcome/ To answer your question, let me present you the way the Kato website can help you Typing 8/12 in the search window will offer you to go to the right page https://www.katomodels.com/product/n/allegra Sometimes (like here), you're lucky and you can find the famous 'ASSY'. Clicking on it will allow you to download them. Sometime ... you're very very lucky and (at least for this model) it's translated to German and English too. Going trhough the PDF, I don't see this train is DCC friendly, meaning, pre-equipped for receiving Kato's DCC parts (sold separately). Usually DCC friendly are identified with a pictogram (examples below comes from Saphir Odoriko ... as I know it is DCC friendly for example) and detailed part explanations On the website itself, the automated translation by Google helps too For your Allegra, nothing is mentioned neither in ASSY nor on the web page. Then, second option is to navigate to: This forum is a real jewel for all teh users as you've got an updated database to look in. Unfortunately, there is "Unknown" here for the related Kato reference (for your next search it'll help ...) Otherwise ... I've no clue. I let more experimented DCC users to answer. JM. Madsing
Hello, I have this model, but I have not tried to install DCC yet. This is an example of a successful installation: http://www.unzan.net/2019/12/11/kato_abe8-12_dcc/ (also use Google translate) He has used this decoder: http://www.snjpn.com/ngdcc/de29/de29x2r2.htm I have purchased several decoders from this company, we can buy them from overseas, they are very friendly and responsive (by email). Payment is via PayPal. 1 Link to comment

D&H DC05 (maybe PD05 which is smaller but thicker), smallest Zimo (MX616?), etc. The small single layer board ones are your best bet. If using one that is wrapped in shrink wrap, like many US models, you may need to remove the shrink wrap if vertical space is a problem... ETA: I've also ordered from NGDCC (www.snjpn.com link above) and had stuff shipped into the US no problem. They are easy to deal with. I've only bought function decoders from them but I would assume anything they sell is fair game. (Btw, their bi-polarity function decoders are the bomb) Edited December 14, 2021 by chadbag 1 Link to comment
