bc6
Today I got my Kato basic 4 car Series E531 10-570 in the mail. I settled down to open my package and I was really impressed. I pulled out several of the cars from the foam packaging & just looked at the rooftop detail and was pretty much blown away. As many of you know this is my first commuter train set so there was a bit of debate as to which set I would go with. Im so happy with this set Im planning on ordering the next set in this series Friday & hopefully the5 car add on set soon after. I havent had a chance to run the set as of yet but Im keeping my fingers crossed for the next opportunity to do so. Link to comment

Mudkip Orange
When you set it as your profile pic, well, I believe you! The real E531 runs as independent 5-car and 10-car sets that are coupled together part of the way. I have 8-cars - I'll probably get the 2-car add on with my next HS/HW order, even if I don't plan on running it a lot, just so it's *there*... Link to comment

One reason I picked the E531 was it's versatility as far as car formations are concerned. I uploaded a quick picture of my E531 sitting on my window sill. Link to comment
disturbman
Ooooh... This set is really silly with a double decker in a so short train. Nice catch bc6! Link to comment
Mudkip Orange
Ooooh... This set is really silly with a double decker in a so short train. Kato wants to make sure you buy the add-on. If they gave you 2 green cars, or none at all, you might ACTUALLY be content to run just four! Blasphemy! Link to comment

If they gave you 2 green cars, or none at all, you might ACTUALLY be content to run just four! Blasphemy! The E531 is really bad for this - while it's understandable not to get a proper case with the 4 car basic set (they're trying to sell you on price in the first place with the small set, and a case would add another 10%), the way it works out you don't have a proper case for all the cars until you've bought the entire 15 car set. The A set gives you 4 more cars and a case for what you have so far, the B set gives you 2 cars to complete the 10 car formation, and the completely seperate, not even closely numbered, stand alone 5 car powered set just happens to have 2 extra spaces in the case it comes in to store the previous B set. My long-term plan is to store 8-car versions of all my trains, with additional cars in separate cases. Link to comment
