B-Shorty and DCC

Recommended Posts

I have seen a couple of old topics online about adding DCC to Bandai Shorty trains. Anyone have experience with this? I know I have two chassis options, one made by Bandai and one made by Kato. I don't know if either chassis is more DCC friendly (I know neither are DCC ready). I also don't know that any of the trucks made for the dummy cars have pick ups (for placing lighting or other DCC equipment in them).

Just looking for general advice.

Even the newest Kato Pocket Line chassis with coreless motor say nothing about DCC. The earlier units were very primitive speed demons. Never heard of any B-Train Shorty or Pocket Line trains with lighting.

Cdot,

I seem to remember a topic about Dcc on the Kato mechs, might search around the forum.

early on bandai was selling trucks with pickups that then had vertical contacts that went up thru the little arcs cut in the chassis floor. But sadly these are very long out of production. But I never then saw the floor contact strips and lighting kits produced by them. It may have been a plan that they decided to cancel before completed. There are a few contact kits in japan that are etched brass that you fold up into the Kato trucks most use on btrains to make similar trucks with contacts that bandai sold, downside is they are like $8 per car for just the truck contacts. I’ll dig the set I got out here as a test. Not all chassis bottoms I think have the curved contact slots in them.

Yep that’s the truck pickup set I got from Amazon.co.jp. I didn’t buy the lighting kit as I would build that myself. These are all done by a third party not bandai. But cheaper on Amazon.co.jp,mbut still $9 per car! All for a small bit of etched brass…

I guess bandai gave up on lighting ideas early on as it was only probably a couple years in that the bandai trucks with pickups went poof.

cheers,

11-106 has been around since 2003. The newer versions run slowly and smoothly. The old ones not so much.

Thanks, I suppose I just need to figure out how to put a decoder bi directional LED into an 11-109 then.

I tried it on a Bandai chassis but haven't had any luck getting it to work (scroll down). managed to get it working but lack of weight may be an issue.
