China unveils 600 kph maglev train - state media

Not showing it running at any speed in the video and it’s “capable of” 600kph. No mention technology licensed from Thyssen-Krupp. But of hyperbole like most new stuff like this gets.

I was a bit surprised when I saw this. I thought the Maglev was on the verge of being abolished because:

 

- It costs a lot of money

- Doesn't go anywhere (it doesn't go into the city center)

- Takes a long time to go to the airport with (if accounting for transfers because it doesn't go anywhere)

- There is a planned project of a traditional HSR to the airport which will solve all the above issues.

 

So that they have a new Maglev that goes ssllliiiightly faster than the old one (600kph does not really matter on such a short track in comparison to the old one) for an enormous cost screams "show offy" and nothing else.

 

That being said I love Maglevs please make more ty.
