Kamome
I'm now even more tempted by the Tomix ED76 0. I also know this area of track in Yahata. Looks like the Chikuho Dentetsu track when it still ran past Kurosaki. 1 Link to comment

Look nice in Niigata colours too. I missed out on the Tomix ones a few years ago. https://www.tomytec.co.jp/tomix/report/ho/70/70_1.html Also thanks to @Modellbahn JP’s gratuitous train porn, I have now preordered the Tomix JNR ED76 0 for release at the end of the month. marknewton
I have a Tomix 70 series in Yokosuka livery, it's a very attractive train. I believe that style of cab was known as a "Shonan front". Cheers, Mark. Edited August 19, 2021 by marknewton 5 Link to comment

disturbman
The front of the 70 is a cleaner design than the original Keio 3000. I was also intrigued by it. http://blog-imgs-112.fc2.com/s/o/n/sonshivc/KEIO3000-1.png 2 Link to comment
Kamome
I know right. I have an N Kumoni 83 from Kato with the Shonan cab. I really wanted one of the HO ones. They come up on Yahoo Auctions from time to time, more so the Niigata area ones for around 65,000 yen which is around their price as new. Alternatively Modelbahn Union in Germany have them new for 700 Euros, so around 90,000 yen. I think I'm safe from temptation but they are lovely looking trains and models. disturbman
I'm so relieved I'm not into HO. I would bankrupt myself 😉 The 70s were pretty rare in N for a while and fetching ridiculous prices on the second-hand market, particularly the Niigata are versions and the Hanwa line version. But it seems the fad receded somewhat. 1 Link to comment

I remember it was interesting to produce Series 70 in Niigata color by Tomix HO scale. Old fans think that was the flag ship color as to say Niigata area. Also, That sounds good you preordered that! It would be good you let ED76 0 haul Kato's series 20 sleepers like Akatsuki or Suisei etc. 1 Link to comment

It was included in a composition when it run on Yokosuka line. That's right as you said. Shonan front was passed down on Series 80 EMU. Link to comment

These have 3 doors per side, do you recall if they were operating local and rapid services as they would today, i.e. for Tajimi, Nakatsugawa, etc? 1 Link to comment

Kamome
Getting more excited about the imminent 20系 release from Kato. I ordered 2 of the Narone 21 as they look like nice models with the curtain details. I want to make an earlier Akebono formation, Kato has it around 1974 with 2 Narone 21s. Probably need an early version EF65-1000 at some point too. 2 Link to comment

Searching that, Kato released an early version EF65-1000 in 2019. I hope some shops have in stock. 1 Link to comment
