No paint. Some dirty clear coat and black paint inside might help a lot. Link to comment
cteno4
Sometimes the translucency is better masked by putting something right behind the colored plastic than painting the plastic itself. Migh try a quick little box out of colored cardstock (just cut out the + pattern and fold the arms all down) and see how it looks. ,play be simpler than having to carefully paint interior as well. Doubt little clearcoat grime will effect the translucency much at all. jeff Link to comment

I could do one of each and see what works best. The dirty clear coat isn't for the translucency, but rather to tone down the radioactive bright red. The real containers are more of a deep red. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:U20A-562_【日本通運/NISSAN】Containers_of_Japan_Rail.jpg Though in some pictures they look quite bright. It's not so much that I'm worried about matching prototype. It's just that these things scream "plastic" and ruin the illusion for anything near them. Link to comment
gavino200
Painting the inside with white primer worked a charm. It stops the shine though without darkening the red color. In person they look good. They could still use some clear-coat though. 3 Link to comment
