Hello,

I've done a video review of the TOMIX controller TCS Power Unit N-DU101-CL 5517. Hope you like it.

With the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) output, the controller can't do what it's supposed to do. Thanks to the oscilloscope connected to the controller, you can see that the lighting output could be exactly the same as the voltage applied to the motor! In fact, the "constant" lighting is just available when the train is stopped.... if you look after 8'20" of the above video, you can see that increasing the lighting control dial makes the train running.....Using the controller handle to full throttle, the lighting will be full on.

My conclusion, with a 20kHz PWM for low duty cycle ratio, there is not enough power to start the motor because of its own inductance. The filtering effect of this inductance, is less efficient and the motor starts to run when the duty cycle of the PWM increases.

Be careful with the new Kato motors with ironless rotor. They have a much smaller inductance. They can start even with no light of the constant light dialer.
