JR East
Hi Fans, I hope it's not posted in the wrong category otherwise I let the mod move it. I got the 7-cars set of Kato JR 651 serie (ref 10-1584). I've installed leds in for the light as well as the right display see picture 1 - Display (meaning 'Super Hitachi') - I also got the one for the Fresh Hitachi in the box. I got a concern on which transfer I have to apply on the 7 cars to make it as real as it is in real life I got this transfer set (pict 2) not resized to let you go thru I got this explanation in Japanese (pict 3). I succeed in making a Google Translate after scanning / OCR. In red it's "Super Hitachi", in yellow "Fresh Hitachi". Going to a blog (http://www.denshaotaku365.com/archives/2008/02/13/7938139.html) I succeeded in having close view but on other pcitures the display is not similar (https://fr.123rf.com/photo_61757962_ibaraki-japan-april-20-2016-the-limited-express-train-kusatsu-at-katsuta-station-this-train-use-651-.html) so that I have no clue how and what to stick where according to the Assy document (pdf here : https://s3-ap-northeast-1.amazonaws.com/kato-model/schedule/pdf/201912041130185de71a3aba3ef/651kei.pdf) Usually, I'm not stuck like that but here, I'll need the community's help rsp. JR Serie 651 specialist if there is. I went to Wikipedia too ... even in Japanese & English but it doesnt help really. I may purchase the 10-1585 4-cars set addons to make a great & beautiful train set next time I'm in Tokyo (Kato Center). I don't know whether it has an impact on which tranfer I'll have to apply on the train set. Thanks for your help. Edited February 19, 2021 by JR East Link to comment
JR 500系
Not really an expert on the 651 series but i reckon you wanna make a Super-Hitachi service (since that is the one on the headmark)? If that is your intention, then the ones circled in Red (marked as スーパーひたち or Super Hitachi), basically, the first 4 rows of the decal sheet. From Wiki, the formation states cars 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are reserved seating or 指定席, so you'll need to use those on the left most column. Cars 6 & 7 are unreserved seating or 自由席 , so you'll use those on the middle column. The ones on the right most column are for regular services, as the 651 is used for some normal regular services. Which one you choose from the 4 rows depends on which destination you like, from top, it says Sendai 仙台, Haranomachi 原ノ町, Iwaki いわき and Ueno 上野. The place to paste the decal is as indicated on the instruction manual: Hope that helps~ Edited February 19, 2021 by JR 500系 Link to comment
disturbman
I never dared put the side destinations stickers. Always seemed like an hassle and not worth the effort. Too small too read and doesn't always look great. All the pictures I have seen of models where people had put these on, never looked so right. Maybe try your hands on something else, with some of the stickers, beforehand. Stickers are organized by service (Super Hitachi or Fresh Hitachi) and then by destination. Super Hitachi Sendai (仙台) Haranomachi (原ノ町) Iwaki (いわき) Ueno (上野) Left and right is between Reserved and Non-reserved. Wikipedia has the organization schematic: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/ひたち_(列車)#2015年3月13日以前の運行概況 Edit: @JR 500系 is a speed demon 🙂 Edited February 19, 2021 by disturbman 1 2 Link to comment

disturbman
Kranji is a wild, wild beast. Never managed to tame it. Neither did I kanjis. But my google skills are alright. Link to comment
JR East
Thanks, that's really amazing @JR 500系it'll help me a lot. I must say I've reached my limits in "translating" the pdf (with Google ...) @disturbman& @JR 500系 I'll make a test before applying, but with internal leds .. those empty windows looks "weird empty". If I don't mind, it's dry transfer, thus removing them carefully with a piece of tape shouldn't be a big issue. I Link to comment
disturbman
@JR EastI also tried using the Google Translate app and pointed my phone at the picture of the transfers. Translation was not perfect but it helped, it was capable to translate correctly some of the city's name and the distinction between reserved/non-reserved seats. I don't have so much experience with transfers, bare for Tomix, stickers never were my forte. You seem to know what you are doing. That might help. Don't hesitate to post the results. Yavianice
Some tips regarding application of destination stickers: - Destination stickers are very fragile. Use a sharp hobby blade/scalpel to cut them, in my opinion long sides are easier to cut first. Know where you will place them before you cut them. - You can use a metal ruler to make sure you cut in a straight line, but I did not find it essential. - The stickers are very often a perfect fit e.g. no need to cut them out with a buffer. Right along the black edge is sufficient. - In my experience it is best to put the stickers on using a pointy needle or the plastic tools you get with most trains (especially the KATO one since it is flat). - You can also use the flat part to gently push the stickers or move them in the right position, and to flatten them out. - When using a needle to slide the stickers into place, be careful you do not scratch the sticker or the body. - Stickers from old sets tend to fall apart easily. So be careful when cutting older stickers. Link to comment
