gmat
From SoraNews24 17 Feb 21; Japan’s “unexplored station” hasn’t had train stop there in four years, is about to close forever https://soranews24.com/2021/02/17/japans-unexplored-station-hasnt-had-train-stop-there-in-four-years-is-about-to-close-forever/ Grant 5 Link to comment
MeTheSwede
Quote Currently, there are only three homes within 30 minutes of the station. I find it a bit hard to argue against this closing decision. 😮 Link to comment
katoftw
Seem weird the still listed the station if no trains stopped there. Link to comment

The time table did list one train a day each direction it seems. So maybe they would have stopped if someone was there (not sure how that would work). Link to comment
maihama eki
It looks like the Yamagata Shinkansen passes through there as well. I've presumably passed by there several times on the way up to Yamagata and Tendo. Link to comment

bill937ca
There is ghost station on the Keisei in Tokyo near Ueno. Ghost stations seem to be a Japanese delicacy. 🙂 Edited February 18, 2021 by bill937ca Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
I didn't know Fukushima Pref. bordered Yamanashi...😄 (it's Yamagata...) Anyway, I doubt this station had many public users even back when it opened- it was built on one of four switchbacks on the pre-Shinkansen Ou mainline on this mountainous section, so the station facilities were likely more for the housing/convenience of railway staff and contingency in emergencies, being a high snowfall area.
