Japan’s “unexplored station” hasn’t had train stop there in four years, is about to close forever

Currently, there are only three homes within 30 minutes of the station.

I find it a bit hard to argue against this closing decision. 😮

Seem weird the still listed the station if no trains stopped there.

The time table did list one train a day each direction it seems.  So maybe they would have stopped if someone was there (not sure how that would work).

It looks like the Yamagata Shinkansen passes through there as well. I've presumably passed by there several times on the way up to Yamagata and Tendo.

That was the last timetable before trains stopped stopping there.

There is ghost station on the Keisei in Tokyo near Ueno. Ghost stations seem to be a Japanese delicacy. 🙂

I didn't know Fukushima Pref. bordered Yamanashi...😄 (it's Yamagata...)

Anyway, I doubt this station had many public users even back when it opened- it was built on one of four switchbacks on the pre-Shinkansen Ou mainline on this mountainous section, so the station facilities were likely more for the housing/convenience of railway staff and contingency in emergencies, being a high snowfall area.
