Peter Osborne
Hi all Ive only ever seen one recent footage on YouTube of a 383 4 car until with only corridor cab cars (no streamlined end) every 383 I’ve seen always has different cabs each end is this common place? Thanks 1 Link to comment
Kiha66
I believe the 383 series has two types of cabs. Like you mentioned one end is streamlined, the other has a gangway. This was somewhat common on 1980s and 1990s designed Japanese multiple unit sets. The kiha 85 series and such have a very similar layout. The Japanese wiki page has more info on the types of trains and consists. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/JR東海383系電車 1 Link to comment
Yavianice
Usually the 383 consists of a "Long" set, a "Medium" set, and a "Short" set of 6, 4, and 2 cars respectively. Only the long 6 car version has a streamlined cab to justify the "WIDE View" moniker (green car only). It's DMU sister KiHa 85 (e.g. for the "Wide View Hida" service) has a similar setup.
