Kingmeow
I've heard New Years is a BIG deal in Japan. It would be great if you can post some pictures of whatever festivities or traditions that go on. One day, one day, I'll be in Japan and stay over the New Year just to experience it. Happy New Year! 1 Link to comment

Just to allow it to move when the ground does? Or something to do with how it was built? Yes I would guess expansion joint to let the bridge float a bit with stresses of load, temperature changes, and earthquake movement. I’ve seen them a lot in overpasses here in the states. jeff 1 Link to comment

kuro68000
Thank you everyone. He was a stray that we took in a couple of weeks before I went away. Seems to not be very curious at all, just wanted to stay in one room. My mum left the door open when taking out the rubbish and he went out, then got frightened by foxes, and now she can't find him. Hadn't had a chance to take him to the vet to get microchipped, or to attach a collar and tracker tag. I'm worried sick but there isn't much I can do. Link to comment

cteno4
The scale sort of looks logarithmic, but some of the 1/2 marks jump around and 7/8 is bigger than 6/7. Weird beastie. Some photographic exposure control was what popped to mind for me too. jeff Link to comment

Not at my best. Link to comment
kuro68000
I caught a virus from some kid, one of the hazards of being interested in video games I suppose. Anyway I nearly died, twice. First time was just my usual reaction to infection: extreme arthritis, every joint swollen and painful. Luckily I brought some prescription pain killers. Unluckily, or perhaps unrelated, I might have had a reaction to the throat medicine, or just the hot bath I took. Either way I fainted getting out of said bath. Dreamed about being in a U-Boat for a few seconds, then suddeny wanted to breath again so dragged myself out. Somehow otherwise uninjured. Should probably stick to public baths were I can be rescued. Or showers. Anyway have been taking it a bit easy. Running out of time now, will try to go to Hamamatsu tomorrow, then maybe on to Nagoya. If the weather improves then on to the north. kuro68000
Thanks guys. Maybe I exaggerated a bit, but honestly I was lucky not to hurt myself. I go years without this kind of thing and forget how it works. I mostly feel okay today, although my throat is sore and I didn't sleep much. I'll probably be very tired later so will head back early. Try to post some photos too. Link to comment
Tony Galiani
Hope you feel better soon. And get some quality rest. Here is a picture of my go to item for sore throats in Japan. Works well for me and the dispenser design is brilliant. Cheers, Tony 2 Link to comment
kuro68000
Thanks Tony. If things have not resolved themselves by tomorrow I'll get some of that. I have some different spray stuff but it's been of limited effect. I also bought some povidone-iodine mouthwash to gargle, hoping it was similar to one I use in the UK. It's a lot weaker in the recommended dose, but I'm not going to exceed it. I'll see if it does anything. Aside from a sore throat and tiredness I've been feeling run down but okay. A big step back from where I was, but hopefully a sign that I will recover quickly. I can never tell. Anyway, finally some photos. Was intending to grab this because it seems that while the cartridge has been preserved, the tape has not. Then forgot. Maybe if I go back for this... Kubota make tractors so I don't know what the deal with his 12 cm magneto optical drive is. It was only 1000 yen, SCSI of course. If was the bulk that put me off. I don't have an 12 cm MO drive for my collection of failed storage media, but I do have a selection of 8 cm ones. Maybe it was for some farming software or something, although knowing these Japanese companies maybe Kubota had a line of computer peripherals I don't know about. Funabashi. Yatsuka. 2 Link to comment
