kuro68000
Oyama. The original out of the camera was very contrasty, but I went for more of a mood here. Also the building on the left is kinda ugly, so I wanted to draw the eye away from it. Original for comparison. I'm not really happy with the reds in the window, but can't seem to get them how I want them. 1 Link to comment
kuro68000
Horinouchi. It was tricky to get the balance between blues and green/yellows here. Link to comment
kuro68000
Fujimino. Another attempt at a mood one. The image out of the camera was much better exposed to make the buildings visible, but I went for a silhouette look. Maybe I should edit that little cloud out. kuro68000
Straight out of the camera, cropped. It's not quite straight... Minami Sakurai. Link to comment
kuro68000
Hard Off Near Yagiaski. I tried framing this one a little. Again, straight out of the camera. The sky has a nice colour here. The timestamp says 17:05 but also GMT+9 timezone so my brain can't figure it out until at least one more coffee. 1 Link to comment
kuro68000
Nagatsuta Station. Somehow this one turned out well and actually looks like it's nearing dusk. 3 Link to comment
kuro68000
Yokohama, looking north from near the Landmark Tower. This one looks great in HDR, but my monitor only has a kind of fake HDR, and I don't have any means to calibrate it either. 4 Link to comment
kuro68000
Yokohama. Maybe a little too dark, but the impression I had when I was there was that the water was pitch black. 1 Link to comment
kuro68000
Classic shot of the waterfront. Should have waited a little for the wheel to be more colourful... Or not, might have been a bit too distracting. 3 Link to comment
kuro68000
Higashi Tokorozawa It's a lot darker than what came out of the camera, but I wanted to have the rails pop out a bit. You need to see it full size for the full effect. This may be my "power levels" moment with photography, if you get the rather obscure reference. Edited July 31 by mojo 2 Link to comment

Also the delta track between Nishi- and Minami-Urawa that goes up to Omiya. There are some good videos of freights coming off that past Nishi-Urawa. It's also visible in a few front view videos of excursions connecting Omiya (or points north) down to Kamakura I think. Seems like an interesting route. 1 Link to comment

It's an interesting station over the tracks, but I'd like to see more of the ones in that area. I tend to get there quite late in the day, but maybe I'll try going north next time. 1 Link to comment
kuro68000
Building in Takasaki. This one was faked a little bit - I had to stretch the sky to change the 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9 to avoid zooming in on the building. 2nd of January, lovely weather. A bit warm actually. The planets must have aligned on this one. Not only did it come out really nice, with the windowless building texture and perfect blue sky, but I also have no idea how I got there. Looking on the map it's west of Takasaki Station, and there are no Hard Off's there. I must have got on the wrong bus or something... From memory I thought the bus was going north, but it turned south so I got off and looked for another one, and that scene just happened to be there while I was waiting at the bus stop. It was well worth the effort too. The next Hard Off had an amazing fine, sadly too large to cart home: A Nihon Bussan "Super Break" game. It's a clone of Atari's Breakout, a very early coin-operated game that wasn't a computer, there was no software, it was pure logic gates. Edited August 28 by mojo 1 Link to comment
kuro68000
Higashi-Gyoda station. I love the aesthetic here. The station is run-down and worn, but also immaculately clean and tidy. I like the perspective lines too, they contrast so well with the wear on everything. 4 Link to comment
kuro68000
The clean and tidy perfection of Nakano. I could have sworn that white building at the back was facing the other way last time I checked. Really says a lot about Japanese building quality. In the UK those white buildings would all be stained by rain by now. 1 Link to comment
kuro68000
Musashi-Yamato station. Apologies to whoever explained what the blue light is for, but here it creates a nice contrast with the green. The blue tint makes it look strange, almost daylight but at night. 2 Link to comment
kuro68000
Yotsukaido Station. Not sure if it's slightly off the level. Might need a tiny bit of rotation. 1 Link to comment
cteno4
Nice walks mojo! Love these to get ideas for little scenery details. We need t9 fit you with 2 more cameras pointing to each side to get wife on views of the scenes you walk thru. I keep finding my self saying oh mojo get interested in that thing and look over at it! Really these are great to have as a resource and put away in my reference lists. thanks, jeff 1 Link to comment
kuro68000
Thanks for the kind words Jeff. I did think about switching to one of those 360 or at least ultra-wide cameras. My phone has an ultra wide lens, but performance in the dark isn't nearly as good as the primary lens which has a newer Sony sensor. I think I'll stick with the phone though. If you are really interested you can often find these places on Google Street View without too much difficulty, although the images can be out of date. Link to comment
kuro68000
The Ishiwara one is all tilted. I could correct it in Resolve I suppose, at the expense of a slightly zoomed in image. I have an app that shows the angle the phone is at with decent precision, so I might try using that next time. The level indicator in the Google Camera app only shows integer values, no decimal places, and I find I'm often half a degree off or something. Then again, maybe hand-held you can't really hold it to better than 1 degree anyway. The gimbal has an app where you can adjust that kind of thing, but I don't use it. I use "mcpro24f" because you can set the bitrate to 100Mbps, which seems to produce much better results than the Google Camera app and the Hohem gimbal app. The Hohem app is a bit of a faff to use too. You can manually adjust the levelling by moving the phone left/right in the jaws that hold it, but it's difficult to do when the gimbal is turned on. I wonder if the more expensive gimbals do a better job in this regard. I wanted to do some astrophotography too, but never found an opportune moment. 2 Link to comment
