maihama eki
Came across a new supplier of laser cut cardstock kits - Baiodo. Their first offering is focused on small older style structures and a couple of detail items. https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/search?typ1_c=104&cat=rail&target=Make&searchkey=Baiodo I like how they have done a tile roof in cardstock. https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10738551/20/7 It appears that they are done in a beige cardstock and require painting. I think I may have to order a couple and see how they go. Edited November 15, 2020 by maihama eki 5 Link to comment
marknewton
They also do structures and accessories in HO. I have one of the shops on order, I'll post a report when it arrives. Their website has some information about painting and finishing the kits. https://www.baiodo.com Cheers, Mark. 1 Link to comment
cteno4
It looks like they just use strips with the half way cut lines to loo k like time and you just put them on top of a piece of the lined material below. The strips looked to be all attached to the roof crown piece so you just plink it down in one piece. Nice I think any scalloping you see is just an optical illusion. They have little lines scored into the big roof sections to line these strips up whe gluing them in. Like how they did the siding moulding in one big grid to glue on top of the siding. https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10738551/20/8 my biggest concern is a lot of painting with laquer paints. I’m wondering how alcohol markers might work on these as they specially are designed not to cause paper warping and leave a good bit of pigment. cheers jeff Link to comment

marknewton
One of the Baiodo models arrived yesterday. As far as I can tell, it appears to be made of the same material that the Sankei kits use. The only difference that I can see is that it's not pre-coloured like the Sankei kits. Cheers, Mark. 2 Link to comment
maihama eki
They seem to be rolling out some pre-colored versions of the original kits. https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10768744 https://www.baiodo.com/shop/#cc-m-product-8222096556 Link to comment
maihama eki
I finally assembled and painted this little Baiodo item. https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10738543 A little late for normal Koinobori season. It looks nice. in my opinion, it is scaled too large for n-scale at 79 mm tall. I think it would look better in an HO scene. I made the little green cardboard disk to hold it up. 2 Link to comment
cteno4
Nice. I remember thinking that when I saw that on release. 40’ would be a tall flag pole. simple to print your own, tons of images out there to work from. Just need to mirror the image in image editing program to do the back side. Could put the mirror images mouth to mouth so cut out and fold over at the mouth. Sand back side of the paper to make thinner. Could even glue a small piece of wire down the middle between the two halves to make it round out a little and extend he wire out the mouth to mount the Koinobori to the pole. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/73/04/3b/73043b232b6d98a83a853e1f84c1cac7.jpg Cheers, jeff Link to comment
