jasona2z
I am looking at the Popondetta foam for containers (https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10703557) and wondering if anyone knows which case they would best fit into? I was looking at this (https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10389586) Casco case, but the dimensions are slightly too vague, does anyone have any advice? I am Also looking for a case to fit my new Kato 12 car Cassiopeia + Power + 2 Locomotives in. Are cases labelled as 'for 21m class' suitable? I was looking at https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10379909 Lastly [for now], I am in need for a case that will fit EH500's. I am hoping to fit up to 4 in the future. Thank in advance for your help! roadstar_na6
Regarding the Popondetta foam I will be able to answer that question soon, since I have two on their way to me. The Cassiopeia cars will probably not fit regular 21m foams but need ones specifically marked for the sleeper express series ones, I think. For locos there is a foam, too. It might need some additional modifications to store EH500s tho Link to comment
disturbman
Two things, from the dimensions posted I think the Popondetta insert will fit a normal Casco case. I would need to measure the inside of one of my Casco cases to verify. The size given for a Casco insert is 198mm× 293mm (5%). The Popondetta insert is 205mm×305mm, which falls in the high bracket of the margin of error of the Casco insert. The Cassiopeia should fit in the 21m cases, the real life cars are 20,8m long. disturbman
I see. The 16-car case might be a bit too tight. Somebody will have to measure the size of the inserts to verify, but the 12-car case/insert should be able to take it: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10721494. The image is showing a Series 24 "Yumekukan", the Series 24 is the same overall height as the "Cassiopeia". Link to comment

I measure one of the Casco cases I have, the inside dimensions are about 200mm×296mm. Seems unlikely that the Popondetta insert will fit if its dimensions are 205mm×305mm, not with a cm difference in length. The fit would be tight. It might be possible to cut the excess PE with a good xacto knife. I wonder if Popondetta is also going to produce a series of cases. That said, the 10-car insert definitely can fit the "Cassiopeia" in height. I get a 30mm height and a Series 26 should be about 26.6mm in height. You could do a 12-car case plus another case to store the locomotive, Casco produces an insert for modern electric locomotives (https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10379901). 2 Link to comment

It seems odd that they don't already. For the 800 Yen, I'm gonna get a few, and hope that eventually I find a case to fit them. Link to comment
cteno4
If you have access to a band saw or table saw trimming off the small amount would probably work. I’ve cut high density foam rubber on both machines with good success. Just use a plywood blade on a table saw or fine metal blade on a band saw. jeff 1 Link to comment
