Coal trains on the Chichibu  Ralway ceased operation February 26, 2020 ending 120 years of operation.

The last coal-only freight train, 5783, which runs in Japan, carries coal imported from overseas from Ogimachi to the Kumagaya Freight Terminal, and by the Chichibu Railway to the cement factory in Mikkajiri. Those coal cars are spotless!!!

 

In this video, it is a picture taken of the running 5783  on the Musashino Line.

 

The formation of the JNR EF65 electric locomotive, which followed 20 black 35-ton hopper fleet JNR Hoki 10000 freight cars, was a masterpiece.

Random anecdote - until everyone stopped going outside I used spend an afternoon or two a week in the Wendy's on the platform of Nishi-Kokubunji station as it's a useful place to work (has power and is not crowded) and a reasonable view of passing trains, and I generally used that coal train which rumbled past a little past 4pm as the signal it was time to go.

 

Also I realised I have a bunch of those hoppers, albeit with the earlier Chichibu logo.
