ranger10178
Hi all, For my upcoming layout, I plan to have Catenary installed all the way around the layout. For my three platform station, I was wondering what the best Kato Catenary would be to use. I was thinking the 'extra wide' Kato Viaduct catenary (23-061). Does anybody know what the approximate width between the poles is on these? Edited April 26, 2020 by ranger10178 Added product code Link to comment
bill937ca
Information here: http://www.sumidacrossing.org/ModelTrains/ModelingCatenary/KatoCatenary/ I don't have any Kato Catenary, so I can't measure it. Tomix does make adjustable Overhead Masts. https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10150036 http://img.ngauge.blog/Manual/3007_man2.JPG For three tracks https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10009749 For four tracks https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10009748 1 Link to comment

However if I can use a Kato premade set that can be ordered from within the UK, as opposed to ordering from japan, I will - As I can purchase the Viaduct Catenary pieces from Train Trax. Sumida Crossing doesn't give me any particular widths for the catenary unfortunately, but I might do a mock up and compare what I can achieve with the normal double track catenary vs the photos shewn on Sumida Crossing! 1 Link to comment
Cat
The Sumida photos were taken pretty flat on, so you should be able to measure the height as marked and compare it to the width just by holding a ruler up to your screen and get a pretty close estimate. Link to comment

Thanks! Good idea haha! It appears they're approximately 75mm wide according to a very rough measurement I've just taken. That makes them about 7mm wider than the normal double track poles. I think I'll add a set to my next Train Trax order anyway, that way I will know if they work for sure! Edited April 26, 2020 by ranger10178 Realised that the gauge on the Sumida site is in metres for a rough translation to real height! 1 Link to comment
ranger10178
Update: I dug out my Kato four track catenary, and it seems to do the job perfectly! - It fits over my planned three platform station! I will have to do some kitbashing to make it work well, but that's fine! Basically I need to drill sone holes in some canopies, and cut some bits off of the catenary pieces. 1 Link to comment
