The last KuMoNi 83 is on the move

I've seen a couple of Instagram posts showing KuMoNi 83 006 being moved by road in the last day or so. Anyone know where it's going and why? It has been at the Toshiba plant for years and is now the last of its line, so hopefully long term preservation beckons.

I was thinking the same thing. In Australia there'd be escort vehicles, cops, lots of flashing lights, road closures, environmental impact statements, NIMBYs protesting...

 

I really hope they're not going to be scrapped. I have models of both types in HO, they're cars I'm very partial to.

Isn't Japan still in an official state of emergency? Strikes me that would be an excellent time to move a couple of outsize loads.

 

I have also seen a couple of photos of the bogies on a low loader, but funnily enough most of the interest is in the bodywork.

Apparently they're both going to "Poppo Hill", an open-air railway mueseum in Chiba Prefecture.

Hopefully to be kept intact, rather than have their cabs hacked off like those unfortunate KuHa 111s.
