kami_illy
Quickly drew up a street for the corner (upper right) where the Shizuoka Tower could stand. Think it'll work. Next I'll put together the improved version of the building. It's already printed, I'm just waiting for a calm moment... Edited November 3 by kami_illy 6 Link to comment
kami_illy
So, instead of building the next -better- version of the tower, I mocked up the surrounding area which has been pretty undefined so far. I decided to create a shopping street. Once the entry signs will be up, you'll be able to see where i got my inspirations. As always, the mock-up is pretty much a paper kit (with some card board reinforcements). The stores viaduct are not occupied so far. I'll decide on the businesses and restaurants later. PS: please note, that the tower itself is still just the first very rough (and in some parts even wrong) "sketch" 😉 Edited November 8 by kami_illy typos 5 Link to comment
kami_illy
I was trying to see, how this new corner looked with the rest of the neighboring city buildings. I like the look of it, but I really have to check the clearances of the viaduct with the whole overhead wire structure and the buildings... I like how the two different levels of the street come together. I just got lost in the construction of this mock-up (I keep doing this and kinda avoid to finally build the permanent base) but now will have to get the whole layout together. Would have never thought long it takes or better how slow I am to get this done. But then there is all the life and family and work and... around. Anyways, maybe over the holidays I'll have some time to continue! 7 Link to comment
cteno4
Actually I think in your case especially doing these mockups are really good as you are juggling a lot in life and just plowing forward in situations like that tend to end up in big oops that can really stall out your enthusiasm and drive for it. Plus you are cramming a lot of stuff in a very small space so more prone to oops and your messing around with the mockups is really finding some beautiful solutions to the complex scenes! Also good to just let an idea sit for a while in the mockup and come back later and see if it still says yes to your brain. cheers, jeff 3 Link to comment

It's a lot of fun to jump in different parts of the future layout and work on individual stuff. But I feel that slowly time has come to finally translate some of that into a more permanent form... Either way, it's a process. And a really fun one it is. Also, to combat any lack of enthusiasm (and to feed my ADS-monkeys) I switch to my side project, which is 500 scale aviation. Here I am planning to build (and mocking-up) a part of the old Berlin-Tegel airport (TXL) and als a section of the satellite terminal of Madrid-Barajas (MAD). ilja Edited Tuesday at 11:57 AM by kami_illy 1 Link to comment
