Liliput D10 HOe Diesel Locomotive

I have been trying to get rid of as much excess model trains and music gear as possible in order to improve my focus.  In am in North Carolina and have sold just about all my US outline rolling stock but moving European stock is harder here.

I have one Liliput D10 - my only piece of HO narrow gauge rolling stock.  It struck me this might work for a small Japanese narrow gauge project.  With my house in a mess due to some repairs and renovation, I want something small to work on and I have an oval of Kato compact Unitrack and two turnouts.  While most of my 1/150 DMUs and stock can run on this, they don't look very good and after seeing a number of Japanese narrow gauge layouts, I thought this might be a nice mini project until I can get back to work on my Chihiro Tetsudo layouts.

 

But will this work with other Japanese narrow gauge stock?  I was thinking of getting some of the Tomytec Railway Collection to use with it but don't know if there is a significant size difference. 

Using 3.8 mm to the foot which seems right for Japanese 1/80 scale I measured the major dimensions and here is what I have.

Length 53 mm which is about 14 feet or 4,267 mm.

Width is 26 mm which is about 7 feet or 2,135 mm.

Height is about 32 mm which is about 8.4 feet or 2,562 mm.

Do those dimensions see reasonable for a Japanese narrow gauge diesel? 

 

 

Not sure about the side rods either.  I have not come across any pictures of Japanese narrow gauge diesels with side rods though I have seen one model of a standard gauge shunter which had them.

Anyway, any comments/suggestions would be welcome.

And about the side rods

 there were some locos that uses the wheels of old steam locomotives.

 

And this Numaziri Railroad 12t DC12 was newly built in 1953.

G'day Tony,

 

There were a couple of other Japanese NG railways that owned diesels with side rods. These include:

 

Kosaka Copper DC4, an 0-6-0 with outside frames.

 

Kubiki Railway DB81, an 0-4-0 with inside frames

 

and the Shizuoka Railway had nine rod-coupled diesels built on steam engine frames and running gear.

 

Ill try to find suitable photos to post.

I am considering a small 1/80 scale project as I have been intrigued by your cameo layout and other modeling I have seen on this forum so the info is appreciated.

Of course, I have several ideas in the pipeline for various projects but we shall see ....
