bill937ca
An interesting article on common errors in layout planning and building. But if we did everything right the first time we would never have the fun of building more than one layout! http://www.cke1st.com/m_train5.htm Edited December 11, 2019 by railsquid remove FB tracking ID 5 Link to comment
VJM
A lot of good points in there. Much of it results from megalomania - wanting to cram an unrealistic amount of track into too small a space and trying to do too much. But the great thing about our corner of the hobby (as opposed to say, H0 with flextrack), is that the Kato and Tomix track systems allow for track layout testing before you commit to anything permanent - we can chop, change, come here on this forum for ideas and discuss with each other, and it only takes a minute to make significant changes to the layout that make it so much better. 6 Link to comment
railsquid
That's definitely one of the things which got me going with N gauge, so nice to be able to get something up and running and gradually adapt it as it becomes clear what works and what doesn't. As opposed to the "traditional" route where you see people working out a track plan, spending months before they can even run trains and in the worst case tearing it all down again. You do get purists who get all worked up about Kato/Tomix track being "unrealistic", but it's all part of the compromise, and there's nothing stopping anyone building layouts the way they want with their preferred track system. 6 Link to comment
