bill937ca
Regular service of the Tokaido Shinkansen Series 700 ended today (December 1, 2019). The last train on the Tokaido Shinkansen Series 700 was Kodama 636 on December 1 (from Nagoya to Tokyo). Arrived at Tokyo Station at 11:16 on time and regular service was terminated. As a result, all regular trains on the Tokaido Shinkansen will be N700A type, and the new model N700S will debut in July 2020 . After the regular service ends, the Tokaido Shinkansen will be used for temporary trains, etc., and it will be retired in March 2020 . http://tetsudo-shimbun.com/article/topic/entry-1896.html?fbclid=IwAR2gecjq9mmiwmZXuOZAFVojk1LHmkQVN-NTyYwGD92m2_ebhTL0TgaLxQc Video by 鉄道新聞 Video by Dr Yellow movie by charonzoom Edited December 1, 2019 by bill937ca 4 1 2 Link to comment
SuperAzusa
It still seems like a modern, capable design. Was the 700 series intended to be replaced at around this length of service at the beginning? Link to comment
bill937ca
JR generally prefers to design trains for a life of 15-20 years and to upgrade to new models with technology advances rather than rebuilt old models. The 700 series reached their peak in 2006. By then the first N700 were under developed and operating. The N700 reached its peak this year. Link to comment
