Yavianice
Shuri castle before: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Naha_Okinawa_Japan_Shuri-Castle-01.jpg#/media/ファイル:Naha_Okinawa_Japan_Shuri-Castle-01.jpg It was a reconstruction from the 1990's, it was completely destroyed during WW2. Hopefully they will rebuild it again. To moderators: since there is no "general" japan news section, I placed it here, if you think it fits better somewhere else then by all means. katoftw
Was just reading about this. Shame. They rebuilt it in the 90s. I guess they could do it again. Link to comment
Kiha66
Sad news. I have fond memories of visiting the castle on shore leave when I worked in Japan. They had done an amazing job recreating the place, every room felt authentic. Parts were still under reconstruction too (as of 2015, when I was last there). Link to comment

Yavianice
It's up to 368M yen now. Crowdfunding is until March 2020. I wonder how much money they are able to raise. Edited November 6, 2019 by Yavianice Link to comment
ben_issacs
I see that the firm 'Woody Joe' is offering a 1:160 scale kit of Shuri Castle, all in timber. The shots of the completed model are very impressive, in its vermillion red finish. Bill, Melbourne Link to comment
