Claude_Dreyfus
I was fortunate enough to spend just short of a week out in Japan earlier in the month. Armed with a JR pass, we stayed in Tokyo (mainly to see the Sumo), Hiroshima and Osaka. A few pictures from my travels are below... Tokyo Area E651 - Saitama by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr (actually Omiya station) E233 - Torro Station by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr Sobu Line E233 crossing the Sumida Rover by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr. Obviously an E231, not 233! Claude_Dreyfus
A couple more from the Tokyo area, including a couple taken from the rear carriage of a Sobu line train. There were a couple of unfortunate near misses with the camera. I could not get a decent picture of the Cassiopeia set stabled just outside of Ueno, nor the attending EF81s. More annoyingly, a series of signal checks meant I just missed the Shikishima set departing Ueno. I saw a number of EH500s, EF64-1000s, EF65s and EF81s around Tokyo, but wasn't able to get the camera out in time. Still, I'm glad I found an EF64-1000, I am rather fond of them! 9 Link to comment
chadbag
What was the 700 (not N70) being used for? The only 700 I saw when in Japan recently was a JR West Hikari Rail Star Link to comment
Claude_Dreyfus
Not sure, it left ECS. I must admit I was a little surprised to see there were still 700s running to Tokyo, but it wasn't the only one I saw in the area (it was, however the only one I photographed). I suspect it is used on the Kodama services (could those reflect the train numbers on that platform's destination board - 719, 629 and 727?). chadbag
OK, thanks. Probably a Kodama. I probably saw one and did not realize it. All the Kodama I saw were N700 (that I noticed or realized). On a related note: I recently was looking through old photos and saw the first N700 photo I took. It was a test run that came into Shin-Osaka. This was before any N700 were in service on normal routes by a few months. 1 Link to comment
Claude_Dreyfus
Next installment covers the trip to Hiroshima via Osaka. DD51 and EF81 (Twilight Express livery) - Osaka by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr. I rather like this picture as I finally managed to capture a DD51, as well as a Twilight liveried EF81...my first Japanese N gauge loco! Not a bad picture given it was taken from the window of a Shinkansen. Next to the Hiroshima area. This EF210 somewhat sneaked up on me - hence the rather rushed composition. Interesting that this train is being hauled by one of the banking EF210s. IMG_2190 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 10 Link to comment

Claude_Dreyfus
The final set of photos start at Mihara, and take up back via Hiroshima to Osaka - where we flew to Kuala Lumpur for a couple of days before returning home. I was pleased to get a couple of decent shots of some yellow liveried units, plus we got to swallow our pride and use the Hello Kitty 500 series back from Hiroshima to Osaka. Final photo of my trip was a shot of the Nankai Rapit, which pleased me. 115 - Mihara by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr E227 and 115 - Mihara by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr EF210-136 at Mihara by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr E227 - Mihara by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 117 - Mihara by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr E227 - Tadano Station by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr Hikari Railstar 700 series - Mihara by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr DMUs by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr Series 500 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr 201 EMU by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr E281 - Haruka by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr Nankai Rapit by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr Rapit Profile by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr Edited September 27, 2019 by Claude_Dreyfus 9 Link to comment

Claude_Dreyfus
Thanks. We certainly did get good value out of the pass. I would recommend it to anyone who travels out to Japan. Link to comment
