scott
I just got the generic-could-be-anywhere Hilltowne Hotel; it's plastic, of course. I'm really not enthused about buying, using, or smelling the old Testor's model glue. Are there any water-based or other non-nasty glues that will hold a plastic model together? Link to comment
CaptOblivious
Really, styrene cement is your best bet. CA works OK too. But its just as smelly... Link to comment
scott
OK--thanks. Maybe I can get gas mask.... Link to comment
CaptOblivious
Perhaps even just a desk fan would help; I have a small clip-on fan from walmart that I use to good effect when I'm soldering. Link to comment

scott
I just received two tubes of Testors' "Non-toxic Cement for Plastic Models." We just got back from a big trip, but when things calm down, I'll give it a try and post something here. Link to comment
underworld
I think it was Testors that used to make (maybe still do) what they called "Sniff Proof Glue". It gives off an aroma of citrus, heavy on the orange. underworld :icon_shaking2: :icon_shaking: :icon_rr: Link to comment
underworld
Had forgotten about these two while making that last post...... Seal All http://www.biosafe-inc.com/sealall.htm This stuff workd on ANYTHING except paper cardboard and Styrofoam. It does have a smell, but not as strong as most glues. It is fantastic stuff. I haven't used it on plastic models yet......hadn't thought of it! But I have used it in all sorts of automotive applications including things under the hood and joining dissimilar plastics. Repaired metal radiator cores......and fixed a few fuel lines with this stuff reinforced with some fiber glass cloth. The other stuff is called Goo.....made by Walthers http://www.discounttrainsonline.com/Walthers-Goo-All-Purpose-Adhesive-Goo-Tube-1-Oz/item904-299.html I think the most amazing stunt I pulled off with this glue was when I remotored and old diecast bodied HO steam loco. The can motor I was able to find didn't have a worm gear on it....I was able to remove the worm gear from the old motor but the shaft on the new motor was much smaller diameter!!!!!!! So I tried putting the gear on with plenty of Goo used as both adhesive and filler.......it worked!!!!!! That gear is still holding strong and I made that repair in 1986. Haven't tried Goo on plastic kits either....but read the description.....really amazing stuff!!!!! underworld Link to comment
