Another article in Japan Today:

A powerful typhoon was heading northeast to Japan's main island of Honshu on Sunday after lashing parts of the country's southern islands with heavy rains and winds that caused flooding and some minor injuries.

Nothing to do with Miyazaki.  The context of tornado like winds.  Cos no other winds could be as bad as tornado?  It wasn't described as monsoonal winds.  Typhoon? Why not cyclonic winds instead? Hurricane?

My guess is they were maybe referring to very high destructive winds in a very small area, compared to the wider monsoon winds.

We have gotten microbursts around here with larger storms where we get regular high winds and gusts all over then in a small patch wham and like 2x wind damage. Like just an acre of trees stripped and uprooted and ones around are fine, but no funnel (tornado) happened but tornado like damage. It’s severe down draft. Throws stuff around like a tornado funnel can.
