miyakoji
Electric freight in North America. Wait what? This is the Black Mesa and Lake Powell Railroad, a line isolated from the rest of the North American rail network. Its exclusive cargo is coal from a mine near Kayenta, Arizona going to the Navajo Generating Station in Page. Unfortunately it looks like the power plant will shutdown, and if that happens there will be no purpose for the line. Since there's no connection to any other line, the GE E60 locomotives and cars will likely be scrapped on site. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Mesa_and_Lake_Powell_Railroad https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GE_E60 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navajo_Generating_Station 2 Link to comment
chadbag
Interesting, thanks! According to Wikipedia there is a similar isolated railroad hauling coal to a power plant in Colorado (mine) and Utah (plant). The Deseret Power Railroad. It also uses an E60 variant and Wikipedia claims it is still running in 2019. Youtube has some videos of it running. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deseret_Power_Railroad 1 Link to comment
bill937ca
Another isolated railway is the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway. It is diesel operated. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_North_Shore_and_Labrador_Railway Here is a 240-car ore train. 1 Link to comment
