Confessions of a Rail Hoar^M^M^M^MPrepper Pt 1 - Greenmax

 

My N-Scale layout is probably going to be at least a year or two away because of renovations, so I have plenty of time to start planning. The downside is, I've got dozens of things stored in boxes that I haven't laid eyes on it 5 years or more (I found my old account and I was last active here around 2011!!). Not knowing what I have makes it quite difficult to plan a layout, and I've spent way too much on it to not use it. To that end, I'm going to inventory everything before the boxes go away again, and just for kicks I'll publicly air what a terrible Rail Hoarder (or great Rail Prepper, depending on point of view) I am.

 

Just so this has some possible community value, the plan is to have a google spreadsheet that tracks availability and price of everything as well. How well that goes depends on exactly how bored I get. At least with the inventory pics published I can update this whenever I get a spare moment.

I'm as guilty as sin when it comes to this sort of behaviour, mind you I have been making my buildings though so I can size up the space I need and how I can fit things in.

I've got a lot of Greenmax kits too. Just need time and space for a great layout....

Isn't that the eternal struggle? I will have a great place... as soon as that place has things like walls and lights.

I'm recording the sizes of the buildings as I go so I know roughly what space they'll take. It's especially important for huge things like the aoshima kits.

Well, the downside of inventory is finding out how much you dropped on the stuff. $670 today dollars on Greenmax. (As, as it turns out, the $CAD was almost identical in 2011)

Tha Danchi is one of a number of kits I haven’t touched yet, I know the two of them are quite sizeable buildings and will need ample space to put them.

I’m glad I’m not the only one hoarding buildings ready for whenever the build happens. I always say buy it when you see it as these things always seem to disappear when it comes the time you want to add them.

 

Those are really good representations of government housing apartments or the sort that big industry accommodate their workers in. I keep eyeing up the Aoshima ones and also want to find the Toyoko Inn that I think Greenmax did.

This was going to be the focus of my layout, once upon a time, so I bought a lot of it. The 2nd batch is also the only used structures I've purchased.

Ouch. I just ordered 2 sets of 2 of the Aoshima apartments. Because I need 4 large apartment buildings
